19th century, likely served the Mad Mahdi in the Anglo-Sudanese War of the 1880s Tool finished asymmetrical blade with medial flat and broad beveled edges. Shaped wood grip wrapped in tooled leather, the designs deeply cut and showing a little deterioration. 13 1/4” length. Regional variation as these normally are mounted with a black horn grip. All original to the period and only example of this type we have encountered.
