See Weapons of the Crusading Ear, Nicolle, #711h for a similar example dated 10th-11th century. Forged iron, 10 5/8” total length with whittle tang which would have embedded to an antler or wood grip bring the total length to about 12”, short sword size. The blade with straight back and particularly thin section, identifying it as a weapon and not a work knife. As well, the original edge is intact with no further sharpening as would be expected for a work knife. Excavated and retaining more than half of the original surface to the blade. Professionally conserved on a Plexiglas display easel, with certificate of authenticity
