CARIBBEAN PIRATE’S FOLDING KNIFE, 17th-18th CENTURY

17th-18th century, of classic form which evolved into the navaja. 4 7/8” length with curved edge, slightly arched back wedge section blade. Original pivot axle and suspension ring. Archaeological water find condition. As sailors were universally prohibited and prevented from owning pointed knives, the pirate attribution may be applied with confidence. Purchased from a Fort Myers Florida dive and salvage shop in the 1980s.
