VIKING PROTECTIVE JEWELRY, 850-1050 AD

$155.00
Silvered brooch, worn in numbers on the surface of the jerkin, to provide a measure of protection against sword cuts and, in fact, were a form of armor. See current Public Television programming for documentation of these in action. As protectors, they also held spiritual significance for the warrior.  Slightly oval form, about 1 1/4” width with rounded face decorated in roped pattern. The surface textured and worn from burial. Professionally refurbished with the silver overlay restored, on a Sterling silver mounted polished leather neck cord for contemporary wear. Gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
