Late 10th-11th century AD, the late period of Viking pagan mythology. Formed as a crescent representing the moon which was sacred to Vikings both for navigating and as the source of light for nocturnal sailing and raiding. It is over 7/8” (0.93”) wide of raised edge crescent form suspending a trefoil. The field with five circles representing celestial bodies. Expanded crescent tips, traditionally emphasized as Sol the sun and Mani the moon. Surface lightly textured from burial. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold overlay restored, on an 18” modern gilt sterling silver neck chain. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
