VIKING CHRISTIAN CROSS, 11TH CENTURY AD

$240.00

Known as the Kievan cross, these were produced in the northeast Baltic hinterland (Kievan Rus), modern Ukraine, during the period of transition to Christianity. During the period and even before, the cross was embraced by Pagan Vikings as a decorative symbol. This example is 1.21” high plus the loop, gilt bronze. It was originally inlaid in enamel and those inlays have been replicated with modern pigments.  Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored, on an 18” gilt Sterling silver mounted polished leather neck cord for contemporary wear. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
