ROMAN CHARIOT REIN GUIDE 2ND-4TH CENTURY AD

$255.00

Bronze 2 ¼” height. Circular with narrow flat ridge inside and out on flared base mounting an iron pin. While superficially similar to a connecting ring or link, it is distinguished by its flat inner surface which does not conform to a connecting ring or hook. As well, it shows virtually no wear as is expected if it hosted a leather strap. Any mechanical attachment would have resulted in noticeable wear. The base flange is bent, obviously the result of a collision which dislodged it from the chariot. Fine patina.
