Forged iron 10 5/8” length with diamond section point on dramatically tapered conical socket to accommodate a substantial wood haft. Remnants of a securing pin inside. Excavated with some loss to the socket base. The awl pike was an economically produced infantry weapon designed to penetrate mail and leather armor. It was most popular before the evolution of full plate armor, but still used after, as many combatants still wore mail and leather only, after the evolution of full plate armor, about 1400.
