GOTHIC SWORD BELT HOOK, 15TH CENTURY

$190.00

Forged iron, 3 3/8” length. Triangular loop with crescent form scallops. Tapered hook with pierced rectangular medial which engaged the scabbard suspension ring. Brass capped acorn terminal. See Metropolitan Museum 2010.180.2, online and displayed in Gallery 307, for a near identical example identified as French, 15th century. The quality suggests the accessory served a knight, probably noble, suspending a sword such as our A5986.
