The hilt with heavy silver overlay and ebony grip with engraved silver cross. 30” double edged blade with foliate, serpentine and standing knight decoration on gold ground. Vacant panel for the owner’s name on side. Retailer’s name J R PETTIS & CO TROY NY to the ricasso. The gold is near complete and a little superficial finger staining only. Heavily silvered scabbard with beautiful hand engraved scrolling foliage. The engraving of a quality and depth no longer practiced or available. Excellent example of a late 19th century secret society sword.
