CHARMING ROMAN ROOSTER AMULET C.100-350 AD

$190.00

The Imperial period. Over ¾” height (0.81”) modeled in the full round with detailed head and tail. Both sides with decorative circle and dot embellishment. The rooster was associated with Mercury. As a symbol of vigilance, eloquence, and the announcement of a new day, the rooster complemented Mercury's role as a swift herald and psychopomp (guide of souls to the underworld). Its positive role is reflected in the slightly whimsical representation here and it certainly was worn by a lady. The 24karat gold surface restored and mounted on an 18” gilt silver necklace for modern wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
