C.1860s to Zulu War of 1879 period. 53 1/2” length. Wood haft elegantly tapered in both directions to its flared butt and woven split cane socket.  Medially ridged leaf shaped head on cylindrical bolster with characteristic dimpled junction. Fine condition for the period with the socket wrap tight and just slightly worn at the top edge. The classic Zulu weapon of war which was used to thrust and parry after Shaka’s personal technique which thrust him to power and the Zulus to dominance.
