Second half of the 19th century. 19" medially ridged blade with black forged scale finish to the field and polished edges. Excellent in original preservative. The iconic form carved wood hilt and scabbard show elegant proportions and very skillful production. The scabbard secured with six wire bands of which one is lacking-easily replaced. Hilt and scabbard with significant surface encrustation from use. After the decline of the transatlantic slave trade, the Ovambo continued the trade, selling slaves for use within Africa.
