From the Baptist Missionary Society Collection, formed in the late 19th century and circulated in England on “Mission Sunday” to illustrate the lifestyle of African “savages” and raise funds for the missions. Forged iron, 27 ¼” length with medially ridged leaf shaped point and opened seam conical socket pierced for a securing pin. The surface with old paint or preservative.  This is a war spear with a single edge nick from parrying a blow and another small dent. At the time, the sole purpose of tribal war in Africa was the capture of slaves for export.
