CONGOLESE SLAVER’S BATTLE AXE, SECOND HALF OF THE 19TH CENTURY

$425.00

Probably Chokwe. 18 ½” length. Wood haft with scraped (not sanded) finish as with earliest examples. Both terminals slightly depressed and scorch decorated. Heavy well forged iron head with distinct lamination one side. That feature among the Zulu is indicative of the earliest spears made by forging two of the old style heads to form one.  A heavy fighting weapon showing use and fine patina throughout.
