Classic as made specifically for the war short cutting traditional construction. Forged iron head, 12 5/8" length of traditional profile, tool finished and maintaining its thickness through the base rather than the traditional flared form. Heavy hardwood haft, tapered through its length, with copper band, likely stolen from military plumbing, at the top instead of the traditional woven split cane. Collected as new and with storage aging only. Ex Gen. Harry Bandholtz Collection which won first prize at the 1905 St. Louis Exposition.
