Ex: John Woodman Higgins Armory Museum, Worcester, MA. Forged iron, 5” x 2 1/8” shaped to conform to the elbow. Pierced with three holes for rivet mounting to leather or padded cloth backing and a sliding joint for attaching to an overlapping plate. Reverse with original chiseled assembly marks as two cluster of punches. Splints were articulated armor comprised of plates which were fastened by riveted leather, sliding joints or riveted directly to provide flexible plate. See Stone p.579.
