17th-18th century. 21 ¾” diameter, domed with upturned edge. Made from a single piece of rhinoceros (?) hide. Two holes pierced near the edge to facilitate hanging as to lay a shield down, signified surrender. Four iron bosses decorated with gold koftgari (worn) to the front. The edge with a couple of minor cracks/bruises as expected for the period. From the collection of Sir Frank Bowden, Thame Park, Oxfordshire England.
