This armor, generally referred to as black and white, was produced in the south of Germany, probably Augsburg or Nurenberg C.1560-80. It is of a type which gained popularity at the time based on the economy of production which required less finishing that all “white” armors while provides reinforcing at the panel margins. This example incorporates particularly flamboyant details, especially in the rolls of the breastplate and tassets suggesting that it was made for an officer. The helmet of burgonet form is made of five separate pieces with two forming the roped crested skull, the visor and cheek or side pieces. It bears contemporary repairs to the right elbow cop and right gusset and the leathers have been replaces as needed. As with all of these, it is composed with like pieces, breastplates, backplates tassets etc. stored together to save arsenal space and reconstituted upon demand. A fine full standing anthropomorphic figure which will dominate any space it occupies. Price includes shipping mounted as shown to the 48 contiguous states.
