Iron, of good form with rolled edge raised neck and rolled arm and lower edges. Single line borders to the arms. The medial ridge with outward flare at the bottom and formed to a discrete beak shaped point. The shoulder strap posts pierced for hinged locking hooks. The base flare with a mushroom topped post each side. Musket ball proof to the right along with another dent, perhaps pistol proof or battle impact. Constructed of four full plates with profuse unmistakable evidence of quadruplex layering to all rolled edges. Evidently, no four plate armors have been encountered for study. 17" height along ridge. Provenance: Hengrave Hall, near Bury St. Edmund, Suffolk.
