GOOD PRE-COLUMBIAN OBSIDIAN SPEAR POINT

$230.00

Valley of Mexico, probably Teotihuacan, C.800 BC-800 AD. 4” length, leaf form. Transitional construction with one face completely flaked and the other triple large cleavage. The first face worked on the parent stone then the entire point flaked free and the back edges worked to form leaving the large separation faces. Beautifully worked with traces of soil adherence from burial. The Valley of Mexico which contains modern Mexico City is surrounded by volcanic mountains, the issue of which formed the obsidian from which weapons were produced. This is the largest barbed spear from the region which we have encountered.
