ANCIENT EGYPTIAN BASALT AMULET

$110.00

Black basalt, just under 1 ½” length shaped as a jar with flared mount and neck pierced through for attaching to the mummy. Amulets were used to prepare the body for admission to the Duat for judgement and admissibility to the afterlife. This one evidently represents a canopic jar. The funerary process included removal and preservation for use in the afterlife of the stomach, intestines, lungs and liver. The amulet would serve as a substitute if the jars were damaged or looted as often happened.
