Mahdist War of 1885. 7 1/8” curved d.e. blade etched with geometric Thuluth script and cabled motif panels, to the point, both sides. Etching quite crisp with good contrast. Shaped bone grip with horn cap (shrinkage crack to the back). The scabbard completely covered in black and white trade beads with blue and white lattice suspending 8 cowries which were imported and highly valued. Beadwork complete with minor distortions only. These daggers were worn by the Dervish followers of the Mahdi who were closest to him.
