Conquistador to early colonial period, 16th-mid 18th century. 7 ¼” length, forged iron with butted seam conical socket an elongated conical point. Isolated pitting mixed with smooth original finish. Condition typical of finds in the northern Mexican mountains. Ex: Bob Sands, 1970s, who traveled into Mexico at that time and brought out colonial items which he sold in Indiana. The Conquistadors were mercenaries who themselves, recruited locals for support and equipped them with these rudimentary pikes which were effective against the natives but no match for Spanish armor, should the recruit change loyalties.
