Forged iron, 5 3/4" length, with a leaf-shaped medially ridged point on welded seam conical socket. See http://www.romancoins.info/MilitaryEquipment-spear.html, 5th illustration, bottom left for a near-identical example. Large chip to the socket edge, otherwise excellent. This is an antipersonnel weapon made to penetrate the armor of the period, whereas the pilum was made to attack an enemy’s shield.
