MEDIEVAL AWL PIKE, 11TH-14TH CENTURY

$285.00
8” length with diamond section elongated pyramidal point on a forged seam conical socket (partially eroded). Excavated and professionally conserved. Recovered at Königstein Castle, Hesse, Germany, between Frankfurt and Wiesbaden. Originally mounted on a 6-8 foot haft and stocked in the castle armory to arm the farmers who sought refuge there in time of the attack. They were capable of penetrating the leather jackets of attackers as well as chain mail. The castle ruins stand today with the earliest portions reduced to the ground floor in the 14th century and rebuilt and fragmented several times thereafter with several buildings in the town of Königstein constructed from the castle stone.
