GOTHIC SIDE KNIFE OR BELT KNIFE

First-quarter of the 15th century. 8 3/8" length. Wedge section blade with maker’s mark to the left side. Original forged iron pommel. Exposed edge tang full length. A peasant’s knife used for eating as well as personal protection and probably the only weapon he owned. The thinness of the blade and absence of resharpening indicates that it was not a working knife.
