GOTHIC KNIGHTLY LANCE

$1,250.00

C.1350-1400 and datable by the form of the point which developed incrementally in response to the evolution of plate armor. 13 1/2” length, finely forged with uniformly tapered medially ridged point on tapered octagonal socket. The socket base with a hole for a securing pin. Sound excavated condition with the socket in excellent preservation and the point nearly so. The difference in condition is likely indicative of the difference metal composition, softer for the socket and harder for the point. If so, this is an important example of carburization. Largely accepted as first used in the 15th century. That aside, it is a lovely example of the point of a lance carried by a knight in the decline of the Age of Chivalry.
