FRENCH GOTHIC LANCE POINT

14th century. Iron, 6” length with large conical socket, pierced for a securing pin, to accommodate the heavy wood haft. Medial ridged leaf shaped point developing from the taper of the socket. That section, preceded the heavy armor piercing points of the 15th and 16th centuries dating it to the transitional mail and plate period for regular soldiers. This is the lance of a knight, who would have worn full plate armor which, if it had survived would be valued in the multi-millions today. It dates to the period of the Battle of Agincourt and earlier.
