Early form with slightly asymmetrical shell guards, large arms of the guard to receive the forefinger and bag shaped quillon block. Each hilt element finely chiseled in delicate foliage crisply preserved. The knuckle bow with some wear. Iron wire wrapped grip with banded iron ferrules. 29 3/4” flattened diamond section blade of fine fighting form. Chiseled iron hilts are more labor intensive than bronze or silver and were valued higher. While most are of very good quality, this examples is of the quality produced by jewelers.
