COLONIAL AMERICAN SQUARE POLL HATCHET C.1720-70

$650.00
Just about identical to #36.A, Swords and Blades of the American Revolution, Neumann, right down to the dimensions. This example, bears a fine large maker’s mark of a heart with figural detail and an original working life haft (splintered at the socket). The head shows a combination of original hammer work and mottled staining or oxidation, negligible for the period. From an old pre bicentennial collection and great rarity for condition as nearly all surviving examples of the period are heavily rusted detached heads.
