1ST-4TH century AD. Iconic form and subject. 1.5mm rounded band with trefoil shoulders. Stepped circular bezel with the Hippocampus figure cut in.  See Ancient Rings, Pollio, p.80 for a virtually identical example. The hippocampus was a mythical sea creature with the fore body of a horse and rear of a fish, which accompanied Poseidon. Fine preservation with the 24karat gold surface restored for modern wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
