8th-12th centuries. Just over 1” in height. Broad beams, the cross beam centered. Each with bifurcated terminals as adopted by the Knights Hospitaller as the Maltese Cross. The front very faintly incised with a stick cross and the back hollowed for the inclusion of a holy relic, typically, a hair of a saint or a splinter of the true cross. Carried by European Pilgrims traveling to the Holy Land to visit the land where Christ lived and died. Provincial example with quaint workmanship and original tool marks preserved. Professionally refurbished with the silver overlay restored, on Sterling silver neck chain for contemporary wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
