MEDIEVAL ENGLISH RING, 10th-15th CENTURY AD

$335.00
Size 8. From a well-known group of anthropoid rings. The lozenge-shaped bezel depicts a bird of prey, probably an eagle hand engraved. See Ancient Rings, Pollio, p.126 upper left for a virtually identical example found in England.  Among animal subjects, the birds which include hawk, falcon, vulture and raven, are among the most popular. Those iconic symbols are believed to have originated with the Vikings and survived to be incorporated into the arms of many Noble English families. This example is in excellent preservation with the 24karat gold surface restored. It is gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
