About 2 1/8” width, oval form, round section with roped frame, reflecting the Viking fascination with the spiral or helix. The ends flattened and curled. Straight cross pin.  Worn in numbers on the leather war jerkin, at an ounce each, a few pounds could be added providing significant protection against sword blows. See current Public Broadcasting for Vikings wearing a protective brooch. Surface texture from burial and the 24karat gold surface renewed.
