See The American Sword, Peterson #121. Standard pattern carried by Union sergeants in the Civil War. Brass hilt with eagle pommel and guard. Upturned left side guard. Floral motif knuckle bow. Spirally fluted leather covered grip with twisted wire wrap. 29 7/8” d.e. diamond section blade decorated with panels of foliage and arms splays. The forte marked Bent & Bush Boston Mass. Bent and Bush started in business in Lowell, Massachusetts, in 1841 and moved to Boston by 1849. They were well known Civil War suppliers. Plated scabbard (undented) engraved with the owner’s name, A L Greeley at the throat.
