COLONIAL/REVOLUTIONARY AMERICAN RIFLE HORN

$425.00

15 å?‰۝ length, natural horn with flat wood bottom secured with wood peg. The horn edge with pierced extension for a shoulder strap. Thickened conical spout with old/original stopper. The primary powder supply for the long rifles and in this size, intended for prolonged use. Lovely mottled color with minor old scratched including a very light name and geometric shape, likely a fort. Cow horns are naturally much thicker than as used for powder horns. They are meticulously scraped to reduce the thickness and weight. Similarly, scratched decoration (scrimshaw) is often scraped away when the horn changed owners. This may be the case here. Exceptional size and form.
