Iron, water find, 7 1/8” length with diamond section double edged blade and fighting guard with down turned quillon tip. A typical side knife as carried by many and sometimes associated with “gamblers”. Probably carried by a Union soldier. Charleston suffered merciless attacks during the Civil War including land invasions of John Island. This example was purchased about 1980 from Schindler’s Antiques, 100 King St, Charleston.
