VIKING SORCERESS’S AMULET, 9TH-11TH CENTURY AD

$185.00

About 1 1/8" height. Silvered bronze, shaped as a duck's foot with divided toes. A burial at Viden, Denmark contained the body of a woman of wealth and status buried with henbane seeds, which have hallucinogenic properties, and a wand as well as other objects. From these, it was concluded that she was a seeress or sorceress. The grave contained a necklace hung with three duck feet pendants very similar to this.  Professionally refurbished with silver overlay and mounted on an 18” modern sterling silver neck chain for contemporary wear.
