VIKING SORCERER'S AMULET PENDANT NECKLACE, 10TH-11TH CENTURY AD

$1,175.00

Four pieces comprising a lateral bar with integral shackles suspending three stylized duck’s feet. A burial at Viden, Denmark contained the body of a woman of wealth and status buried with henbane seeds, which have hallucinogenic properties, and a wand as well as other objects. From these, archeologists concluded that she was a seeress or sorceress. (Among Vikings, only women were sorcerers.) The grave contained a necklace hung with three duck feet pendants very similar to this. Just under 1 ¾” total height. Professionally refurbished with the silver surface restored, on a 3 mm Sterling silver neck chain modern wear. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
