VIKING SIDE KNIFE OR POUCH KNIFE, 879-1067 AD, CAMBRIDGESHIRE, ENGLAND

$120.00

A type known to be prized by Vikings and buried with them. For that reason, it is thought that they had supernatural significance. Recent glacial finds record some with their original grips. See https://leatherworkingreverend.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/dsc01382.jpg and https://inhabitat.com/melting-glaciers-reveal-items-lost-in-the-stone-age. They are of proportions similar to a modern paring knife and capable of slashing a throat to the spine a well as delivering a penetrating organ deep thrust. This example is 4 3/8” in length with a thin blade for slashing which distinguishes it from a working knife. It is excavated and professionally conserved on a Plexiglas display easel with certification of authenticity.
