10th- 11th century. Just over 7/8” width of broad crescent form with double edged field within beaded borders. The tips with circles representing Sol the sun and Mani the moon. Both sides identical. As expert navigators, celestial bodies provided guidance and took on supernatural identities. This amulet was intended to invoke the help of and praise the glory of the solar system, represented by its two most prominent and influential bodies. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold overlay restored. Charming. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
