VIKING HEART RING C.900-1050 AD, SIZE 8 1/2

$210.00

Heavy rounded face band, 2.6mmM, flaring to the shoulders. Early form heart bezel, flat and made without the cusped top as later. The surface is delicately hand-engraved with an irregular figure, significance now lost, on hatched ground. The cusped top form was used toward the end of the Viking era and the rounded top earlier, with regional exceptions. The heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, integrity, all attributes of the Viking warrior. It is abundantly referenced in Viking literature. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold overlay restored. Gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
