Mahdist War period, C.1885. One piece wood hilt with wheel pommel, cut from the heartwood with lighter sapwood tips to the flared guard. One tip chipped. 6 ½” particularly thick medially ridged blade in heavy congealed preservative. Likely British gun grease applied by the soldier who captured it and preserved it against the ocean voyage to England. Geometrically tooled leather scabbard with fringe tip and belt tab pierced for button fastening.
