SPANISH SILVER HILTED CAVALRY OFFICER’S SWORD MODEL 1851

$875.00

See Vicente Toledo Momparler, Espadólogo, p.170.  Cruciform hilt, The cross guard with ancient warrior head terminals and medial badges of cavalry arms and flag splays. The pommel with lion’s heads alternating with the head of Athena. Silver wire-wrapped black horn grip. 30” diamond section rapier style blade, possibly a family blade from an earlier sword as often encountered. The Hilt tests for silver and, as with all silver hilts, is alloyed. In this example, the alloy metal is probably copper which gives an overall gold color to the silver.
