ROMAN HORSE HARNESS SWIVEL 2ND-5TH CENTURY AD

Bronze, skillfully cast as two interlocked pieces. A rectangular shackle with ribbed circular base in which is captured the expanded tip axel connected to an angular shouldered round buckle.  This required a core to occupy the space between the axel and the hole it occupies, which could withstand the molten brass, then be broken away after cooling. Total length just over 1 ½”
