Earliest production of the company which eventually became the Henderson Ames Co. Gilt hilt with gilt cross inlaid to the rose wood grip. 29 ½” double edged blade decorated with cross, shield & motto, bishop’s miter, six point star, knight’s helmet and foliage. The ricasso marked HENDERSON & GIDDINGS KALAMAZOO MI. Gold plated scabbard finely decorated in high relief figural knights and crusades motifs. The heavy gold virtually 100 intact throughout. The blade excellent+. Fine example and sword history as Henderson and Giddings dissolved their partnership after two years and Henderson continued under his own name in 1893 when he merged with Ames. Fine example of a 152 year old sword!
