Ottoman Turkish Tinned Copper Bowl

17th-18th century and possible from the booty collected after the Siege of Vienna in 1683 as a significant proportion of surviving Ottoman weapons and accouterments are. 7 3/4" diameter with broad flared lip, angled sides, and raised foot. Entirely hand-hammered as opposed to European examples which were cast or lathe "spun". That process required repeated annealing of the metal particularly in the raising of the foot. The whole craft is characteristically Turkish and many examples are very highly valued. This example retains most of its tinned surface on the outside. The rim with four punches and perhaps identifying the owner. The underside (bottom) bears a maker's mark and cursive signature. Very rare.
