NORTH AFRICAN/MOROCAN NIMCHA

$375.00

Good old example with 9 ¾” curved blade inlaid in brass serpentine and crescent both sides. Brass guard. The hilt and scabbard encrusted in cowrie shells and red and green beads. Cowries are not native to Africa and were imported from the Indian Ocean. Accordingly, they were highly prized and used for exchange (money). Those here are of selected uniform size and the aggregate display would have represented considerable wealth at the time. Worn and patinated with some losses as shown.
