MEDIEVAL MYSTIC RING, 12th-14th CENTURY, SIZE 11 3/4

$235.00

Gilt bronze with 2.4mm low rounded face band.  Slightly flared shoulders and banded edge bezel with a six point star (hexagram) on lined field.  The form of the decoration accords with more common Christian rings of the period, representing the Star of Bethlehem. However, at the time, the Star of Bethlehem was depicted with four points. This is an effort to superficially emulate the Christian symbol using a six point variation. It demonstrates the blend of Paganism with Christianity prevalent at the time and which survives to a lesser extent today in the form of superstitions and “good luck charms” which in fact, are a form of amulet. Professionally refurbished for modern wear with the 24karat gold overlay restored. Jewelry gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity. Rare large wearable size.
